What are muted paint colors and how do I ask for them?

I like the pale greens and beiges used on hgtv.can you give me some names of the paintsWhat are muted paint colors and how do I ask for them?
You go to a paint store, look at their colour chips, pick one you like. They have hundreds to choose from. If you have something that has a colour you like on it, you bring it to the store and they can sometimes match that colour by computer. It has never worked for me but you can try. Muted means softened or greyed so the colour isn't bright. Muted blue might be slate blue, for instance. What are muted paint colors and how do I ask for them?
i have no clue. Look on hdtv!

Paint colors for bedroom?

I'd like to do a oak wood trim with half wall one color and half another color. Which colors are good together and does the lighter color go on top or on bottom? I love all colors - any ideas would be great.Paint colors for bedroom?
I would stick with a warm color since oak is a warm-toned wood. Lighter color on top (otherwise it makes the ceiling appear to be ';sinking'; into the room and give you a closed-in cave feeling).

I would also stay with two colors on the same paint chip - light and dark shades of the same tone.

The smaller the room, the lighter or more neutral tone you should pick. With a large room you can go a little bolder....go all out and pick anything you like. It's just paint and paint is cheap, so if you don't like it, you just cover it up.Paint colors for bedroom?
Go to Sherwin Williams and pick up a paint pallet. They give you this thing that has a color sample of every color imaginable. Pick two colors from the same card for a sublte shade difference or two colors from different cards for a stark contrasting difference. Personally my bedroom is done in two shades of green as well as my dining room in two more shades of another green. My office is done in red and yellow. My dining room has a chair rail so I have the darker color on the bottom. You could do it the opposite way but I tend to think that would make the room feel a bit smaller. My other rooms I have three walls in one color and the 4th wall as a different color. You can also go on Sherwin Williams website or Behr paints website and they have programs where you can paint walls in a room. It's really fun! I created one room in Red, Beige and Black to have an Asian theme. Loved it, but was afraid to use red in my house (very hard color to match). Have fun!!!

I would go with a bold color on the bottom and a very light neutral color on top.

Also, at Menards in the paint section they have a display with small jars of color. Don't know who came up with this idea but I think it's fabulous. Before you commit to any colors you can buy a couple of these sample jars and test. I think their only a couple dollars each. Good luck.
Try a light creme and then try a dark creme.
Sounds great! I definately think the darker should go on the bottom and lighter on top. The colors depend on your favorite, do you prefer pastels or darker shades or primary colors? If you like the darker shades, I'd do a tan or brown on the bottom and a pale yellow or sage on the top. You could also go two shades of the same color. Like an off white on the bottom and a brighter white on top. Best of luck! :)

  • How do bodyshops match cars paint colors. (Like) how can they make the same exact paint again for any car?

There is a microscope website to take samples and describe to you the actual paint. Rarely a paint is achieved

with layering effects like greys from a white base. This site

tells you in a miniature sample and will describe what paint

stocks are available and how to apply those for total repaints. Patch repairs is litely different.http://www.corel.comHow do bodyshops match cars paint colors. (Like) how can they make the same exact paint again for any car?
Take a chip of paint from the car, they are able to test it that way and match it.How do bodyshops match cars paint colors. (Like) how can they make the same exact paint again for any car?
Every car has its colour code on a plate under the bonnet, this colour is made up by a paint supplier, then tinted over until it's an exact match,

some colours fade badly, or metallics lose there metallic look, these have to be allowed for in the tinting,

there are now machines available that will give you an exact match.
your car carries a matal tag, on the door post, usually. it gives the paint number for that car. they just use that number. easy.
My truck will be needing painted since Walmart drove the side of my truck against their building. The dealer says that they can match my paint with the VIN and they can also use a paint matching machine with a chip of paint from my truck
Most assembly line cars use standard paints from a specific year with a serial number associated with it. Like 1998 ford forest green #h1096 etc. The shop just orders it and goes to work. Of couse 9 year old paint will most likely need to be buffed out to match the new paint. Some custom paints need to be mixed by an expert to match.
If they are a modern shop, they will have a paint mixing station. This station will have all the colors to mix any color on any car or truck. The paint code is printed on all cars in the vin no. in the door post or glove compartment These colors are then blended or tinted to match your color to the tee.(if they are pro,s) like me(smile)

What are the most popular colors to paint your kitchen?

I want black cupboards. We are re-selling the house in a year. What would the magority of people like? What are the most popular colors to paint your kitchen?
This depends on what mood you are trying to create.

( I always check the new color trends before painting)

Though, I personally prefer spicy colors.

    read this:

    ';Biscuit and wheat neutrals, cocoa brown, pumpkin orange and cinnamon apple pie, are just a few of the comfort colors that will wrap your room with warmth and promote a stress-free space';

    ';Yellows and blues, leaf-like greens, along with organic browns combine to bring the outdoors in. Add translucency and a glass like quality by incorporating varying paint sheen levels. As a subtle accent color, add rust or copper-like metallics into the scheme. Bedrooms and bathrooms are perfect places to incorporate the back to nature hues or in rooms where an accent wall is employed.';

';From clean, clear reds and deep plums to the sophistication of black and white, this color group works both as an accent and as an elegant backdrop for many living spaces. Polished brass metallics complement this scheme. Dining, living rooms and especially powder rooms will benefit from this bold and spicy palette.';What are the most popular colors to paint your kitchen?
I would go with a pale yellow or poss. something neutral.
Stay with light colors in the kitchen. Certain pastels are not right in the kitchen but very light yellow is a pretty color as are the earth tone colors. Go to Lowes %26amp; pick up some Kitchen Remodeling magazines, %26amp; you may find a nice color that way. Black cupboards in a kitchen would not turn me on. I like a light kitchen.
I just sold a house that was very colorful and bought one that had aweful paint. Depending on what other colors you have - I would go with a light green (pistacho) or yellow. These (2) colors are very popular right now. And really pretty together.
Stick with something neutral like beige, tan, coffee colored. If you must have color make it something light- like yellow so if the buyers want to paint over it they wont have to put primor up.
the most popular colours are yellow , green and peach,, - all in very soft colours,, to keep it bright..

With the brown furniture, you have lots of choices of colors, because you can easily (and not too expensively) change throw pillows.

With that in mind, I love soft green colors (my living room is called Sprig of Sage). You can use some blues as well as some reds with that. good luck
My daddy paints houses and i have learned what goes with what but that's is not the point... I would have to say like a creame color or a mochaish color.... or even a and anext wall of white... i think that would look very good... Or what we have is a mocha wall with the other walls in our T.V room a few shades lighter...

I really do hope this helps...
Baby blue sounds like a great choice I love a light blue wall it gives a soft look to the room.

Sand (light tan) with one wall in a medium blue. The blue wall should be the main focal wall.

CAN U HELP???What colors to paint my room and how?
What if you balanced it by going with lighter colors, like aquamarine, pear green and a powdery pink? There was a great painter named Piet Mondrian who did collages of colored blocks and you could do a larger version of his color blocks in your room to tone it down and yet make it fun and lively. Put a band of white about 1'; thick around all the different colors and make it look like a nice piece of finished artwork. Or you could go really Mondrian and paint the walls white with a black 1'; strip framing random blocks of nice soft colors.

Here's a link to some of his work so you can see how cool you can get with it:

go back to nature. Collect leaves, flowers, stones, sand... etc... go back to your studio and try to combine colours until you can match your samples. previously, cut strips of cardboard of about 10x 3 cms. once you have the colour, write down the combination (ex. 1 part cad red, 2 parts naples yellow, 1 part sap green) and you paint part of the strip with it, so you have a visual aid. (not all colours work the same way, it depends on the brand, but you will have quite a good clue.)

  • Do HOA's have veto power on paint colors not visible from HOA property?

For example, if one has a door on the backside of the house that is not visible at all from the HOA's ';common area'; (the street on the frontside of the house), does the HOA have the ability to dictate what color it can be?Do HOA's have veto power on paint colors not visible from HOA property?
It really depends on how the HOA bylaws are written. Different communities have varying degrees of detail as far as what you can and can not do. You need to get the bylaws from the HOA for a full list of what is and is not allowedDo HOA's have veto power on paint colors not visible from HOA property?
it depends on the HOA but most have a say on the outside the entire house if they were to ever find out they could tell you to change it back.
Depends on the HOA Declarations. You should have received a copy when you bought your house. If the HOA is trying to enforce that rule, ask them to show you what section of the HOA declarations gives them the right. Additionally, there may be policies passed by the Architechtrual Committees of your HOA that specifies this.
That mostly depends on the agreement you have signed and how much you want to fight. It can be written in loosely and most people just back down. Majority of the time, they are pretty specific in your agreement.

What colors of paint did David Alfaro Siqueiros use in his paintings/murals and why?

I need to know what colors he used in his art and why. Dark/light/etc and why he chose those colors. Thanks! What colors of paint did David Alfaro Siqueiros use in his paintings/murals and why?
'Siqueiros's art is one of violent social protest expressed in dynamic, swirling brushwork, dramatic contrasts of light and shade, brilliant colors, and heroic themes. Among his best-known works are murals at the National Preparatory School, Mexico City (1922鈥?4) and for the Plaza Art Center, Los Angeles (1932; destroyed); the mural Portrait of Mexico Today also originally painted in Los Angeles in 1932 is now in the collection of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. His other major murals include the vast Liberation of Chile, at the Mexican school, Chill谩n, Chile (1942); New Democracy, at the National Institute of Fine Arts, Mexico City (1945); a series at the Polytechnic Institute, Mexico City (1952); and the culmination of his work, The March of Humanity (1968, Hotel de Mexico, Mexico City).'

check out some of his work here and look at the use of color--

    http://www.moma.org/collection/browse_re鈥?/a>

the why is in the paragraph above. Also, check this page out:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siqueiros

'His accentuation of the angles of the body, its muscles and joints, can be seen throughout his career in his portrayal of the strong revolutionary body. In addition, many works, especially in the 1930s, prominently feature hands, which could be interpreted as another heroic symbol of proletarian strength through work: his self portrait in prison (El Coronelazo, 1945, Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City), Our Present Image (1947, Museum of Modern Art, Mexico), New Democracy (1944, Palace of Fine Arts, Mexico City), and even his series on working class women, such as The Sob.'

'Siqueiros designed one of his most famous works, Portrait of the Bourgeoisie, warning against the duel foes of capitalism and fascism'

'In the early 1930s, including his time spent in the Mexican Lecumberri Prison, Siqueiros produced a series of politically-themed lithographs, many of which were exhibited in the United States..'What colors of paint did David Alfaro Siqueiros use in his paintings/murals and why?
Mostly primary colors because his mother was a kindergarten teacher and he wanted to honor her.

  • What are the best colors to paint your bathroom when re-selling?

Thinking about selling our house and need to know the best things to do to get more money out of it!What are the best colors to paint your bathroom when re-selling?
I have to disagree with neutrals-----the trend now is in designer colors and people want to see spa-like bathrooms. What color are your floors, fixtures and tile? If they are in the neutral range, go with a soft sage green (NOT mint green!) on the walls. Stage the bathroom with all white or off-white plain towels and rugs. Add in some bamboo accessories and maybe an orchid on the counter---real or faux. This will give your bathroom a calm, soothing spa type feel. Good luck

also---a great hint! Clean your faucets and any other metal surfaces with rubbing alcohol. It will get rid of any water spots and make them shine like new! What are the best colors to paint your bathroom when re-selling?
they say paint everything light or nuterual colors
At present, the beige/taupe/camel/caramel colours are the most desired...they look rich and expensive...
I think the best way to decorate or stage a bathroom is to have a ';spa-like'; feel to it, so we painted ours a sort of light green.....I wouldn't say sea foam but it was along those lines.
I have just had my bathroom decorated and we chose a warm terracotta and it looks lovely. I think some bathrooms look cold and this colour has added alot of warmth. Everything else in there is white, whick looks nice and clean.
Neutrals, like off white. The problem is that the ';really cool colors'; you picked don't necessarily sell. As soon as someone sees a hideous green bathroom, they immediately think about how much effort and money it will take to redo it. Same with every other room. Not so with off white. It doesn't even get their attention, so there are no ';how much will it cost'; thoughts in their heads. They simply realize that they can move right in, put in their towels, soap dispensers, furniture, appliances, pictures, and everything else, and it will all blend.
Paint everything white. Also, change out all light bulbs to Reveal light bulbs. It will be like walking into sunshine in your house. Yes, all light bulbs!
Keep your room colors neutral, de-clutter, and try to put away as many personal type items as you can. Do whatever you need to make sure the best features of your house show and not your stuff. Make sure that each of your rooms will show for the purpose they are to be used for. If your dining room is currently your office, it needs to show as a dining room for example.
Neutral tones. Basically, you a color that the potential buyers can ignore, so that they can focus on the features %26amp; layout of your house.

I would suggest finding your best towels - the ones that you will display when showing your home (or buy nice, new ones, if necessary) and then choose a coordinating color that will work well with that color. Sherwin Williams color visualizer is great for that b/c it shows a color scheme at the bottom of the page that will work well together.

I'd keep everything neutral; whites, beiges, creams.

What are the best colors to paint a room to make it look bigger or just better?

Im changing rooms, im taking one that use to be home to an infant baby girl, so the walls are pink! i know i dont want to paint it over with just white.. i want something cool, crazy, yet calm mature. HGTV is not helping, and im tired of watching the freaking channel! What are the best colors to paint a room to make it look bigger or just better?
You could do aqua or a blue teal that looks like ocean/beach. It is cool but not too crazy that you cannot get to bed. Do white trim.

IF you don't want all one wild color, do one wall (like the one your bed is on) in the wild color and then the other 3 walls in a lighter version of that color.

for example, one black wall 3 grey walls OR one red wall, 3 tan walls. What are the best colors to paint a room to make it look bigger or just better?
Light colors make a room look larger. In paint, there really isn't a 'just white'. There are literally hundreds of whites that shade into all other colors. I personally like warm whites that are touched with golds and reds, but if you live in a very hot environment a cool white, touched with greens and blues can have a psychological cooling effect.

Wanting something cool puts you into the blue/green tones, crazy yet calm mature, thats a tough order...lime green would be too crazy, sage wouldn't be crazy enough...what about a very pale seafoam green ? I mean very pale, like an almost white but touched with blue and green. It's retro and sophisticated, but can be crazy too.

Anyway, have fun with it. And if you really aren't sure, do what I did. Pick a color or colors, buy the smallest cans you can, paint a 3x3 section of wall with each of them and live with it for a week or so. That's how I picked my last interior and exterior colors, I rejected a couple before I chose the final color and I'm delighted with the results.
Light colors can do it. Put one color on the opposite walls and one color on the other two, that will be a good start. A large mirror on the wall can also be used to make it look bigger. You can even go so far as to paint angles on the ceiling.
Bigger or brighter, you want to go with a light color. Sage green is nice and so is a buttery yellow--not to pastel or bright though. I vote for sage.
to make a room look larger you need fairly light colours, or possibly one dark feature wall the rest light, always do the ceiling in white as this will make it look higher
In my home decorating experience, yellow is a harsh color on the eyes no matter how light. It has something to do with your pupils/ reaction to the color brightness.....

I prefer warmer, calm colors. Right now decorators are hot on clay beige. Our new home is painted with it and I have accented a wall, some arches and recesses with a shade four shades darker and it looks rich and warm....

As for decorating and accesssorizing with this color scheme, sage green, grape or merlot are good choices. Pay attention to the moldings and door and window frames also. If you paint them white, they open up and brighten the room. Use airy fabrics on the windows. You can always purchase shutters for privacy underneath. Keep your chiatsckis (?) to a minimum, but with impact in either a strong color or form....

My living room is black, clay beige, cocoa and off-white with merlot as my impact color and I'm very pleased with the look and feel of the room..

    Good luck
Light colors make a room appear larger and dark colors make a room appear smaller... you dont have to use white, just use a light color... your imagination should tell you what color to select... if you need some examples light shades of yellow, blue, green, etc
well i would say bergindee it is nie sophisticated and very mature!!! and i am sorry if i spelt the color wrong
Get a light neutral color, it doesn't have to be white. go to Lowes, Home Depot, where ever you shop. Look at the paint spotches and pick what YOU like, not what a fruity home decorator on hgtv likes.
go mod! light colors to look bigger. paint each wall a cordinating color or opposites the same color or even one wall a different color. also mirrors, mirrors, mirrors, and more mirrors! put several long mirrors on one wall! it will look great! good luck to you.
Yellow! It's bright and still is light enough to make a room seem bigger. Be sure to prime the walls first so the pink doesn't bleed through.
It's true that light colors expand a space, but small rooms have their own charm - ';cozy'; can be great without being large.

Take a look at your wardrobe! What colors are you drawn to? What makes your heart sing?

When I was young(er) I was so afraid to make a commitment to color and everything I had was sooo bland. It took me way too long to find my palette - don't let that happen to you!

If you're a teen or young adult, it might be fun to experiment with a kind of Bohemian look, so you don't have to worry about everything being too ';matchy-matchy'; and you can feel free to play with color.
If you are looking for a very relaxing color, try a really light hyacinth or dusty lilac color. It looks really nice and airy and soothing and will make a small room look larger. It also looks great with sage green as an accent.

What are some great colors to paint walls to make the appear larger?

My husband and I just bought our first house. It has an open floor plan where the kitchen and living room areas are open to one another. It's only six years old so it looks brand new. The living room and hall way are a maroon color and the kitchen has beautiful wall boarder but the kitchen is tan. I also can't figure out if I want to pain the kitchen, living room and hallway one color. I need help on colors. These walls are too dark. Any advice on painting and remodeling would be greatly appreciated. What are some great colors to paint walls to make the appear larger?

There aren't any great colors that make rooms appear larger, unless your idea of great colors include ones that are white, off-white, and light colored, in that order. Darker colors make rooms look smaller.

    do a faux finish w/ yellow/golds/browns/cherry

play w/ some of those on new paper %26amp; c which mixing together would work ... I think it would look sharp w/ u'r cherry cabinets. U can do one wall solid if u don't want it all fauxed.. do like wash... that's always a neat concept
The first step would be to look around your kitchen for inspiration. Is there a piece of dishware or artwork that really strikes your fancy as far as colors or textures go? If so, use that as your inspiration and have paint color-matched to the colors in your dishware or artwork.

Go to Wal-Mart or your local hardware store. Go to the paint aisle. Pick-up sample color cards in every color that appeals to you, and take them home. Look at them compared to your walls and cabinets and flooring. Choose the ones that you think go best with your kitchen. Tape those sample cards to the wall near your cabinets, and look at them for a while to decide if you really like these colors. You can skip this step if you're really sure that those are the colors you want in your space.

If you're pretty sure that you like those colors, go back to the paint aisle and have a quart of each color mixed. Paint a 3-foot by 3-foot sqaure of each color on your walls, trim the square with any trim colors you've chosen. Let the paint dry, take a look, and decide if you still like these colors. Again, you can skip this step if you're really sure that those are the colors you want in your space.

Go back to the paint aisle and have enough paint made up to finish your kitchen. You may have to ';prime'; over the area where you painted the 3-foot by 3-foot sample square to cover the trim colors, if those colors are very dark in comparison to the main color you've chosen.

You can also talk with the expert in the paint aisle about specialized paints and techniques to make the painted walls ';fancier'; ... like rag-rolling, suade-look, leather-look, textures, and the such.

I guess the bottom-line is, it's your kitchen and you have to live with it. Pick colors that you like. Use a technique that you like. And have fun making the space your own with your own unique sense of style. Good luck!
i have heard red is supposed to stimulate appetite, and it's usually a really warm color, especially with something like cream
    pale burgundy and cream
I would suggest a lemon yellow and green apple combo.

    What are motivational paint colors?

I am painting a classroom and I want to use a color that is more motivational than dreary, it also has to match the blue/gray family of colors of the floorWhat are motivational paint colors?
Baby blue or 'Hospital' green with lots of white. Use color sparingly when painting and keep stuff on the wall colorful but limit the amount. Better one big collage than a myriad of little paintings, posters or pragmatical pieces.

That standard gray floor is designed to go with 'anything'.What are motivational paint colors?
A creamy yellow is a definite color for motivation. As red brings on passion and possibly anger (as does hot pink), studies have shown that yellow -- even used in accents -- is the perfect color for an office/work setting.

Remember that it's a strong color and it's the first color our eyes recognize in the spectrum -- so a soft yellow is fine.
A very pale warm gray with pink accents is the most inspiring color scheme according to NASA research done in the late 80's. Sorry I can no longer locate the info on NASA website but it at least would go well with the blue/gray. There is a lot of info on color psychology out there but just as many opinions as facts - probably more.
I think a nice soft butter-yellow is fine, but I really like the idea of an apricot or peach color on one possibly two or three wall's with the remaining walls done in a white or dove gray. On the color charts blue and orange are opposites or complimentary color's and so may be very appealing to the students eyes.
My suggestion is to go to a local paint store and get some sample cards and take them to the room. Lay them by the tile and see what looks the best and what works for you. I would not rule out certain areas of color such as violet. This family of color certainly motivates me and would blend with your gray and blue colors as well.

Really though, it is a matter of personal taste. You are the one that will be in this room and it should be something that you absoulutely love. Good Luck with you selection and may God bless you....Nomadic

    Need help with paint colors?

I have a pretty big L shaped dining/living area. We just recently painted the dining area a yellow golden beige color and installed crown molding throughout the house (white), the dining room color came out nice. I suggest painting your accent wall a deep orange like ';baked clay'; (# 6340), and then ';baize green'; (# 6429) for the other walls. It might sound like a lot of color going on, but I swear this would look stunning. Check it out.Need help with paint colors?
I take it you don't have any stone work around the fireplace. If you do take the color that will compliment it. Otherwise I'd go a yellow/gold maybe something deeper than the dining room. Keeping colors in the same family make things flow. Espresso is also the new neutral. Good luck!
I think a darker shade of what you have in your dining room would look good. How about a medium brown, such as ';tea chest'; from Sherwin William's. I was looking at their site after I read you question and that is what I would suggest. I'd definitely stay neutral, and in the same family. Good luck!
That depends on the style of your furniture, and other colors that are used in accessories .... A deep camel would be nice, or, if you're the adventurous type, even a burnt orange or rust ... Just keep it a ';warm'; color with yellow undertones
Since I'm not 100% sure on exactly what yellow golden beige looks like, by what it seems like to me, how about either a mocha brown or even a sagey green?
A darker variation of the yellow/gold colour around the fireplace with a pale yellow on the other walls.

First impressions suggest that your current color scheme is okay. However - and I may have told you this before - search the web and look at a color wheel. That will show you the matching pleasing colors that go with one another.

People have studied that for years, what color goes with what. Try the color wheel because that will please most people and guests.I am having trouble with paint colors, please help!?
    It really depends.

What color is your furniture? Are the photos in thin frames with white mattes?

For chocolate brown walls to work, there have to be a lot of light colored items in the room. A white or light beige couch and large white mattes lighten the space.

    Here is an example: http://decoratinggallery.bhg.com/RoomDet鈥?/a>

BTW- If your furniture isn't light, I would repost a new more detailed question. People don't tend to check back on questions they've already answered.
I don't think so. But you might consider another color for the frames. Like white. But if that will take away from the pictures, don't change them. But do another color for curtains, pillows and a blanket throw. Roxanne

When I Paste Some Pictures From MS Word To MS Paint the colors are messed up?

The colors are completely normal in Word but when i paste it into paint the colors get like blotchy? I don't know how else to describe it, but they don't look right. Does anyone know how to fix it?When I Paste Some Pictures From MS Word To MS Paint the colors are messed up?
I know exactly what you're talking about.

I've done a lot of copying and pasting pictures from Word to Paint. Much of the time I don't have a problem, but sometimes I do have the same problem you've described.

Depending on where you've originally obtained your pictures, many websites make it difficult to copy and paste pictures due to copyright protection.

A few other things could be playing into this:

    - Your monitor settings are low or the monitor is not high quality.

    - In Paint, you need to save the picture either as a jpg/jpeg, bmp, or some other format

    - Adding to the above mention of saving in Paint, you may need to save it as a lower bit color 24, 264 and color or black/white.

One way to try getting around this is rather than selecting and copying/pasting your pic into Paint, try treating it as a character, highlighting it like it's text then do a copy/paste as if it's text.

To do this, you need the little solid black squares as it's corner points (not the open circles). If you see open circles rather than the solid black squares, double-click on the picture to go into picture formatting menu and select the LAYOUT tab then select IN LINE WITH TEXT.

Then click OK and go back to your picture, highlight it then copy/paste into Paint.

    I just did this myself.

Then save it as what ever file type you can save it as.

Good luck!!When I Paste Some Pictures From MS Word To MS Paint the colors are messed up?
You shouldn't copy and paste them from word. Instead if you go to the source of the picture and right click on the picture it should give you an option to open the picture into paint. From there you will probably want to resize the picture. That option can be found in the edit option at the top of the program!

I'm remodeling my piano studio. What paint colors/techniques should I consider using?

I teach all ages - I need for all of my students to feel welcome, without the colors driving me insane(er) - I'm in this room for 6 to 11 hours every day!I'm remodeling my piano studio. What paint colors/techniques should I consider using?
If you are in this room for 6-11 hours a day, then you will want to room to be decorated in a way that makes YOU feel welcome and comfortable. Another perk in decorating the room for YOU is that the clients will get to kmow YOU and feel comfortable with YOU faster.

As far as welcoming colors, YELLOW is the ultimate welcoming color. Just pick a shade of yellow that you love. You have several hundred choicces from lemon, to butter, to gold. There are even off whites with just a touch of yellow if you prefer nuetral colors. In the end, this is your room, so add coordinating fabrics that make YOU happy. Layer the room with lots of pillows, drapes and musical art for a cozy feel.

Another thing you can do to make your clients feel welcome is to burn cookie and pie scented candles. This could backfire, though and make everyone hungry, so you might also want to keep some healthy snacks on hand.I'm remodeling my piano studio. What paint colors/techniques should I consider using?
    oooohhh i love taupe

use taupe :) calm, subtle, and yet unique
    Black and white.
Paint it a soft neutral color of your choice. Whichever one makes you feel more at ease.

Don't concentrate on the children, the room or the amount of time you are there. While you are there, feel the music. Let music be the most important thing in the world to you. Music is life.
Soft colours like light pink are calming and welcoming. Bring in plants to place near windows and use some sheer curtains to allow in light but prevent glare.
oooh when i think of a piano... i think of beautiful deep rich reds, and golds, and creams. i think that would be gorgeous

What oil paint colors do I mix to get a vintage - light blue color (for a vintage victorian dress)?

Color is very hard to determine unless you see some sample.

Anyway, light blue is made of by adding white to your blue.

There are a series of :

    - Cerulean

    - Cobalt

    -Turquoise

    -French ultramarine

If you like my choices, offer some tips on decor!

Thanks!I would like some opinions on some paint colors I have chosen?
Very nice! Also Glidden is THE BEST for being able to touch it up later!

I gotta run,but will write back tonight with some awesome ideas!

Your colors are awesome now I would get items that have both colors in them like drapes that are brown with the maroon in it too,but it only has to have those colors in minute amounts. It doesn't have to be dark drapes.

Carpet that is exactly between maroon and the brown you have would be okay. So get a small paper cup and put equal amounts of the brown and maroon in it and mix it together. Then take that to the carpet store{If you are getting new carpet.} Then have it that color, but lighter so it will bring out those colors, but won't be too dark.

Now when you paint it if you are getting any kind of a gloss wheather it's semi gloss or eggshell it's a good idea to do the first coat in flat. Flat will cover a lot better and you can use that as your primer instead of white unless you have water damage or something ,but in that case just spot prime before using the colored paint.

On first coat ROLL FIRST! Nobody will agree with you even pros, but they are wrong! Roll first on the first coat with long strokes when laying it off and jam it right into the corners. This will save time on brushing just make sure you smooth it all out. Then brush corners with the flat paint. Use a 1/2 inch nap roller cover.

Next on finish coat if it is any kind of gloss use a 3/8ths inch roller and brush as you go. Brush left side if you are right handed and do top and bottom maybe 10 feet at a time and rolling long strokes staying away from top and bottom at first, but as you add more paint smooth what you appllied 30 seconds ago. NEVER try to make paint look good as you put it on!

#1- Apply paint staying 8 inches away from ceiling and base in two rows.

#2 - Spread towards the first row of paint you applied always spreading towards what was applied before gradually getting near ceiling line you brushed. This give a little time{A minute or two} for the paint to tack up because it WILL NEVER lay off good until it sets up for a couple of minutes anyways.

As you get about 2 to 3 rows ahead lay off the first row with long strokes from the base to ceiling with and the roller will be mostly dry as you roll back to that point. You will have a PERFECT rolled finish! Then when you get to the 10 foot mark smooth out roller area and brush quickly the next 10 feet.

Semi-glosses will show lap marks if you brush too far ahead. There is a product called Floetrol. It is latex and keeps the paint wet longer to prevent drag and lap marks. It DOES NOT this drown the color of the paint! It is also GREAT for ceilings because ceiling paint is sooo chalky.

Oh yah when you first take your roller covers out of the plastic wrap masking tape around the cover so it looks like a barber poll. Then rub it in and then pull it off. This will get the new roller free of hairs that will shred into the paint and give you a better finish.

Good luck!I would like some opinions on some paint colors I have chosen?
I very much like your choices, especially the living room.

These are very saturated colors and if you do not have good light in your rooms it might make them seem dark or look smaller.

Chose a light ceiling color that is slightly tinted with your wall color.

Crown molding is nice if it fits into your budget.

I am assuming that your furniture and accessories are compatible with your wall colors.

Go for texture in your finish materials for maximum impact.

I am sure it will look great when you are finished and if you end up not liking it, the best thing about it is, it is only paint! You can always choose a different color.
I like the choises that made but remember to carry some of those colour in both rooms , and use the reverse affect with the window covering by going a bit lighter for the living room I have included a picture the sofas are like the colour that you chose but take a look at the lighter shade on the wall that would be the one used for the window covering

for the dining room if you like traditional

add a touch of gold and for the window ivory will look wonderful I like white but it will be too stark to look at ivory is warm and luxurious

    http://www.bydesigninteriors.com/images/鈥?/a>

I have no idea on the furniture that you have so this is the best that I can suggest so far ,if you can add a bit more detail I will try to be of more help to you .
I like both color choices, but let me add that I just moved to a house with almost the identical color scheme and it does make the rooms seem darker than they are. Our dining room is small so the crimson-y color doesn't seem oppressive (it's nice--plush and classic), but I keep the lights on in the living room even during the daytime. When we repaint I'll do the living room in a lighter shade.

  • What wall paint colors affect moods?

I have been looking for info relating to what colors to paint an office...I have been unable to find backup to studies I have heard (Red is not good, Yellow is soothing, etc.)

Any direction or advice would be appreciated....

ThanksWhat wall paint colors affect moods?
    red makes you hungry

red and yellow make you hurry (ex. mcdonalds)

    blue calms

    green makes you less hungry

    black is sexy

    white is clean and simple

Red, orange and yellow are warm colors and make spaces feel more cosy. While blue, purple and green are cool colors and can make a room feel cold. For an office, depending on your tastes, I would use a grayish blue. Something in the earth tones (they have gray in them and look earthy). Its a good choice for an office because office means work and work is stressful. If you go to behr.com (paint website) you can find ';shale gray';. If that is too dark try ';cool sky';. If you hate blue, I would still try to use a cool color or atleast something in the earthtones. What wall paint colors affect moods?
I have mauve-rose in my bedroom, and it is very relaxing.

I have a butternut squash yellow in my living room, and it is beginning to get on my nerves.

My son's blue bedroom is boring to me.

BUT...My dining room is white with a hint of green, and everybody loves it there-even when it isn't meal time!
My counsiler in high school recommended for me not to paint my room yellow because studies had shown that yellow makes people more depressed than other colors. My friend painted her dining room a dark red...it's really comfortable and soothing to eat at her home. Something about the red is really warm and cozy.
blue seems to have a calming effect on me guess it is really a personal opinion though.

bright, light colors. white works but is kind of boring. Depending on your taste you could do tans, peaches, very light greys, yellows - but muted not sunshine - you would get sick of that. Any color really that is lighter. Whatever you choose paint the ceiling about 2-3 shades lighter (just add white to your paint). That will make the room seem even larger and therefore more bright, without bringing the room in on itself with all the same color. Also do a focal wall. For indtance if you choose peaches, do 3 walls in a nice cool peach color, the ceiling a couple shades lighter and one wall either dark peach, a purple (muted dark), Chocoalte brown, etc. It will really give the room nice dimension. Good luck. Greens would look good as well. What are good colors to paint a room?
dumpster dirty green and foor your carpet hot pink wit smiley faces trust me i love my room like that
light blue or even green, it is relaxing and calm
Without knowing more information about your color favorites or what's currently in your room, it's hard to make a good suggestion.

Take a look around the showroom gallery at http://www.roomvues.com for some ideas.

You can upload a photo of your room into the makeover gallery there and for ';free'; get some specific advice from a color consultant or interior decorator.

    It's pretty awesome!
well it really depends on your style but i would recommend neutral tones if you want to have alot of options to change your room if you want to in the future.
i painted mine blue yellow green and pink
light and bright colors are the best
Your favorite color would be best of course!
    neutral colours like magnolia!
If your room doesn't have any natural light coming in from a window, then your best bet is to bring the light in through your paint by using color from the sunshine family: yellow! Though I don't know exactly what you want to use the room for, I'd stay away from any screaming yellows such as lemon peel or lemon lollypop. Aim more for a light custard cream yellow. Don't lean towards beige either, or you'll feel you've gone dowdy and stuffy. The brown in the beige will do that.

Here's a picture... concentrate on the Straw yellow, egg custard or ivory castle colors. Do the trim with scotchbutter.

Add warmer or lighter colors in your decor scheme, depending on what you want. If it's a play room for your kids, punch it up with some funky kids colored furniture such as this:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/forsaleinbon鈥?/a>

If it's just a reading or hanging out room, look at what some fresh patterns can do to lighten up your space and make it still feel cozy and inviting:

    http://weblogs.newsday.com/features/home鈥?/a>

If it's a office space, consider adding a greige color for the trim, and drop in a hint of black and white:

    http://www.balmer.com/images/gallery/2_b鈥?/a>

However, if it's a small and dingy powder room, consider using a screaming yellow:

    http://img.hgtv.com/HGTV/2007/07/30/barc鈥?/a>

And even if the room you're doing isn't a bathroom, you'll get the idea with this link of what a nice custard yellow and warm yellow-white can do to warm up and brighten up some space:

Okay... I guess that's about it... Sure hope I helped...
';Copen Blue'; by sherwin williams. It's very very light %26amp; bright. Perfect for the basement:

    http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_鈥?/a>
I painted my walls light blue and it looks really nice. You should paint it light blue, too. It's lovely, bright, and makes everything seem happier. :)
well in a basement what looks nice is waynes board (that stuff that goes half way up the wall to the chair rail) in white or off-white, then for the upper part of the wall a light color like yellow, tan, blue, or a sage green
I'd start off by coming up with a theme. For instance, if you like outdoors, the beach, hunting, fishing, surfing, animals, flowers, the rain forest, Or, if you like music (guitars), automobiles, motorcycles, records, or japanese art, comic books, rock stars, what ever it might be, start with an item of choice, a picture, rug, a bed spread or a mural and take your color clues from there.

since there are no windows, why not find a window mural, then paint the rest of the room around that.

Here's a great web site to get you thinking:

Good luck and have fun. Remember, paint isn't permanent, you can always change it if you don't like it.

Is there a place on the web to look at floor samples n put them against paint colors so u see how they look?

I know there is web site where you can try diffrent combination of wall and flooor combinations before you spend thousands on it for real.Is there a place on the web to look at floor samples n put them against paint colors so u see how they look?
You can also go to Home Depot and Lowes. They have small flooring samples available for purchase right next to the item on display. Better to see it in your home then on line.Is there a place on the web to look at floor samples n put them against paint colors so u see how they look?
forget home depot and lowes, they are killing your local economy. go to a shewin williams or poter paint store and get a paint chip book and take that to a flooring store. I would be willing to bet that in your home town the flooring people and paint stores all know each other and are very willing to help you out

What are the best colors to paint a kitchen with? What are the worst colors to use too?

We are painting our kitchen and I picked a blue. Lightish blue, and dark with white trim. The others were picking browns, greens, etc. I really like the blue, but we want to know which are the best. Thanks. What are the best colors to paint a kitchen with? What are the worst colors to use too?
white is best, because it is easy to know if your kitchen is dirty, and keep it always clean and clear.

maybe you will think it is humdrum, you can decorated some bright color flowers or other accessories .

blue more suitable for bedroom. What are the best colors to paint a kitchen with? What are the worst colors to use too?
Blue is a funny interior color because it is over-powering. If you paint your walls a Hawaiian blue you would need to off-set it with a pigeon white. Brown hughes will cause the room to look smallish and the greens will only cause this be more powerful. Kitchens are by necessity a lighter place in the home for emotional moodes. You are ultimately the finial judge of your taste, however, if you plan on re-sale without a re-paint go with a more neutral tan and white.
It all depends on what the colors are around your kitchen. and what the ultimate goal you have is....IE, cozy? larger look? longer feel? etc

If you go to colorcheckinc.com and read their info on picking colors you will also be able to email them and get a reply back .....especially if you send a picture of the kitchen and sk for a uggestion they will have a designer reply.....It doesnt reference that But I have used them before

    good luck
dark colours make everything closer and gives one a hemmed in feeling

light and neutral colours make you feel you are in a bigger area and are easier to clean
I would go with a pastel color like off white or pale green or pale yellow or a very light blue. It also depends on your color scheme.

  • Can anyone find these bedroom paint colors?

    Hi!

I found 3 colors that I liked for my room, and I cannot seem to find them on like sherwin William's.com or places like that. But can you find me these colors and their names and where you found them? Names of colors mean nothing. They are assigned by the individual manufacturer.

how bout match it with soft purple.. i think its a great combination.. as it looks and gives energy and fun with a soft touch..
When I was younger I had a very multi-colored room... so my parents painted my wall a bright yellow (not a mustard, more of a sunshine)... then they let me finger paint the other colors around the edges of the wall (kind of like a border)... I absolutely loved it... it was a nice way to incorporate the different colors... I'm not sure how young your daughter is, but I think I was about 8 or 9... it was a good way to get me involved and it turned out looking great!
well you could paint it yellow with green, orange, turquoise, and pink polka dots- or just paint it yellow.....- hope this helps
Check out these tools I usually use online...I'm sure you'll be able to find one to help you choose the right color or color combination for your daughter's room

    kuler.adobe.com

    colorblender.com

Then use the information (RGB number/value) with this next site to match the color on the screen to real color paint lines.

    easyrgb.com

Each of these sites shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes to learn.

Another program I use alot in giving color advice to clients is a free program called CBN Selector. With this amazing program, you use a digital photo of your daughter's room as it currently is, and then use the program to color the walls (or furniture, or anything else)....Amazing results! It takes about 15-20 minutes to learn once you've ever even dabbled with the Paint program on your computer. Super realistic.

    Hope that helps.
I would paint stripes on the walls of all the colors you listed
I would go with purple.. it goes great with all of those colours. Similarly turquoise would be great too.
    MINT GREEN
find something that is the color you like. whatever you find , you can take it to Home Depot or any paint store and they will ';computer match '; the color. Keep in mind that colors can effect moods and behavior. So , since it's for a child, be sure to stick with more mellow , happy tones. search the net for ';colors for moods'; and you'll get some good suggestions
Sounds like my daughter's comforter! We did the walls in

yellow for a brighter look, and other accessories are mostly turquoise--lamp, pillows on bed, etc.
i would go with lime green and pink or any other 2 colors, but i dont think its a good idea to put all of those colors on the wall.. that would be too much.. but then again.. it all depends on ur taste!
Color the walls turquoise with a bold lime green line going around the room halfway up from the the floor and put two smaller lines above and below it like so...

    --------------------------------------鈥?br>

    --------------------------------------鈥?skinny green

    =======================thick green

    --------------------------------------鈥?green

    --------------------------------------鈥?br>

use the remaining colors (orange, yellow and hot pink) to make random sized dots all around the walls in random places!!!
something light, like white, beige, grey, off white to compliment all those colors
I used wall magic on my daughter's room. She has two walls with wall magic(colors are a maroonish color and an orange so it looks like a sunset) and one wall is the orange and the other is the maroon.
When you're using a lot of bright colors, think of the wall as a backdrop to display them on. I would choose the yellow because it is the easiest to look at for the longest amount of time. The more intense colors, especially the hot pink, will tend to get a little nerve racking. Use the other colors as accents in posters, window treatments, lamps, etc. (great websites, chipcheap)
I would paint three walls ';electric lime'; by Sherwin Williams, and then paint the wall behind her bed ';energetic orange.'; Paint the inside of the closet either ';ice plant,'; and any trim ';nifty turquoise.'; I think it will look funky!

    Painting over sample paint colors?

Do i use a primer?Painting over sample paint colors?
a primer is used on new or unpainted surfaces and sometimes as an etching agent,if your samples are of the same type paint,eg water based, or oil based,as the color you are gonna paint ,no primer required

now it gets technical,if you are using a low hide color, deep yellow, deep red, deep blue, you will need to color the entire wall in a base color,or the samples will smile tru the new finish ...for ever!!

the store will tell you if a color is low hide, use a light Grey for blues greens and reds and white for yellow and orange,

this technique can be used all the time to save on expensive finishesPainting over sample paint colors?
    Yes, definitely.
    Might be a good idea

Anyone know any good green paint colors from Behr or Glidden?

my room is small, and does not get much light. I love bright, rich greens but I want to go lighter so the room looks more spacious and becomes more bright. please help. pictures would be great as well :)Anyone know any good green paint colors from Behr or Glidden?
Your computer monitor may not show colors the same way they are meant to be. Green is a funky color that runs from a blueish to a goldish to a blackish tone. Glidden and Behr will match anything you want. I suggest you go to a fabric store and get 1/2 yard of several shades of green...tack them to the wall see what floats your canoe.Anyone know any good green paint colors from Behr or Glidden?

I really like dark brown for my living room, but a lot of our wall hangings are ansel adams so they are black and white. Will black and white prints look funny hanging on a deep brown wall? Any Other color suggestions that will look good with b%26amp;w?I am having trouble with paint colors, please help!?

Roxanne
light blue or green?... oh and it wouldnt look weird

Which one do you have so you can mix your vintage blue ?

You can disagree with my preferences, but be respectful and constructive.

I like the choises that made but remember to carry some of those colour in both rooms , and use the reverse affect with the window covering by going a bit lighter for the living room I have included a picture the sofas are like the colour that you chose but take a look at the lighter shade on the wall that would be the one used for the window covering

    http://www.ifurn.com/pics/8/coaster-furn鈥?/a>

for the dining room if you like traditional

add a touch of gold and for the window ivory will look wonderful I like white but it will be too stark to look at ivory is warm and luxurious

    http://www.bydesigninteriors.com/images/鈥?/a>

What paint colors would go with these curtains?

http://s699.photobucket.com/albums/vv352/tabithashaw/?action=view%26amp;current=shrink-1.pngWhat paint colors would go with these curtains?
Lots of colours would go with those curtains...white, a softer hue of the curtain colour, red, milk chocolate brown, gold, some greens, deep yellow, burnt orange, off white (cream), tan/beige...just depends on your style, what your decor is...etc.What paint colors would go with these curtains?
it seriously depends on what other things you are going to have in the room. What's your comforter/bed spread like? You want to use complimentary colors to match your comforter since it usually is the main focus in the room. Deciding on wall color really depends on that, not the just the curtains you are hanging.
    Black, Dark Purple...

Can you paint different colors on acrylic painted wooden wall letters or it will get intermixed?

I am painting nursery wall letters and was wondering if I can use different acrylic colors on already painted acrylic wall letters. For e.g. blue clouds over the green color letter. Will it get intermixed? I hope not because I let it dry for a day. What do you think??Can you paint different colors on acrylic painted wooden wall letters or it will get intermixed?
Once the paint is dry it is 'set'. Painting over would not bleed any of the colors... Think about this- The paint is washable isn't it? If it wasn't, how could you clean it?Can you paint different colors on acrylic painted wooden wall letters or it will get intermixed?
As long as you let the bottom layer dry first you can layer after layer. It shouldn't even take a day to dry but maybe this depends on the type of acrylics you're using.

Sounds like a lovely project. :)
Allowing it to dry completely will allow you to paint detail over your base coat so you have done the correct thing. Good luck with the new blessing.

Exterior Paint Colors for New Home?

The home we are buying has a horrible red clay colored brick on the bottom half of the house. The house needs painting so we'd like to use colors which will diminish the appearance of the orangy-pink brick. Any ideas for siding, shutters and trim?Exterior Paint Colors for New Home?
Lite colors will draw the eye away from the brick. I would not suggest painting the brick.Exterior Paint Colors for New Home?
How old is the house. If it's old, then sand blasting the brick will probably lighten it up.

Then use a color that draws your eyes away from the brick, perhaps something in yellow.

If you want to totally hide the brick, have the whole house done in a vynal siding in a color appropriate for the style of the house.
    Anything that suits your eyes.
Congratulations on your new home. Color is a BIG deal...drive around town and look at other homes. Find a color that you like and ask the owners what it is (ask for brand of paint also). I had trouble envisioning what my house would look like from a little paint swatch. As for the brick, it depends on whether you're going to remove it, cover it up or paint/treat it. There is a brick cleaner/acid wash available that goes with a pressure washer. Try pressure washing it to see if it tones down to an acceptable color. If the bricks are old and you decide you don't want them...call a local recycle building company. They will oftentimes remove the brick for you if they can have it (it's usually a tax deductible donation also). Have fun with home ownership!!!
Seems like the color of the brick is objectionable to you. Instead of just painting the house, why not try painting the brick also (the same or with a complimentary color)?
