What are the best colors to paint a room to make it look bigger or just better?

Im changing rooms, im taking one that use to be home to an infant baby girl, so the walls are pink! i know i dont want to paint it over with just white.. i want something cool, crazy, yet calm mature. HGTV is not helping, and im tired of watching the freaking channel!What are the best colors to paint a room to make it look bigger or just better?
You could do aqua or a blue teal that looks like ocean/beach. It is cool but not too crazy that you cannot get to bed. Do white trim.





IF you don't want all one wild color, do one wall (like the one your bed is on) in the wild color and then the other 3 walls in a lighter version of that color.

Light colors make a room look larger. In paint, there really isn't a 'just white'. There are literally hundreds of whites that shade into all other colors. I personally like warm whites that are touched with golds and reds, but if you live in a very hot environment a cool white, touched with greens and blues can have a psychological cooling effect.


Wanting something cool puts you into the blue/green tones, crazy yet calm mature, thats a tough order...lime green would be too crazy, sage wouldn't be crazy enough...what about a very pale seafoam green ? I mean very pale, like an almost white but touched with blue and green. It's retro and sophisticated, but can be crazy too.


Anyway, have fun with it. And if you really aren't sure, do what I did. Pick a color or colors, buy the smallest cans you can, paint a 3x3 section of wall with each of them and live with it for a week or so. That's how I picked my last interior and exterior colors, I rejected a couple before I chose the final color and I'm delighted with the results.
Light colors can do it. Put one color on the opposite walls and one color on the other two, that will be a good start. A large mirror on the wall can also be used to make it look bigger. You can even go so far as to paint angles on the ceiling.
Bigger or brighter, you want to go with a light color. Sage green is nice and so is a buttery yellow--not to pastel or bright though. I vote for sage.
to make a room look larger you need fairly light colours, or possibly one dark feature wall the rest light, always do the ceiling in white as this will make it look higher
In my home decorating experience, yellow is a harsh color on the eyes no matter how light. It has something to do with your pupils/ reaction to the color brightness.....





I prefer warmer, calm colors. Right now decorators are hot on clay beige. Our new home is painted with it and I have accented a wall, some arches and recesses with a shade four shades darker and it looks rich and warm....





As for decorating and accesssorizing with this color scheme, sage green, grape or merlot are good choices. Pay attention to the moldings and door and window frames also. If you paint them white, they open up and brighten the room. Use airy fabrics on the windows. You can always purchase shutters for privacy underneath. Keep your chiatsckis (?) to a minimum, but with impact in either a strong color or form....





My living room is black, clay beige, cocoa and off-white with merlot as my impact color and I'm very pleased with the look and feel of the room..

Light colors make a room appear larger and dark colors make a room appear smaller... you dont have to use white, just use a light color... your imagination should tell you what color to select... if you need some examples light shades of yellow, blue, green, etc

Get a light neutral color, it doesn't have to be white. go to Lowes, Home Depot, where ever you shop. Look at the paint spotches and pick what YOU like, not what a fruity home decorator on hgtv likes.
go mod! light colors to look bigger. paint each wall a cordinating color or opposites the same color or even one wall a different color. also mirrors, mirrors, mirrors, and more mirrors! put several long mirrors on one wall! it will look great! good luck to you.
Yellow! It's bright and still is light enough to make a room seem bigger. Be sure to prime the walls first so the pink doesn't bleed through.
It's true that light colors expand a space, but small rooms have their own charm - ';cozy'; can be great without being large.


Take a look at your wardrobe! What colors are you drawn to? What makes your heart sing?


When I was young(er) I was so afraid to make a commitment to color and everything I had was sooo bland. It took me way too long to find my palette - don't let that happen to you!


If you're a teen or young adult, it might be fun to experiment with a kind of Bohemian look, so you don't have to worry about everything being too ';matchy-matchy'; and you can feel free to play with color.
If you are looking for a very relaxing color, try a really light hyacinth or dusty lilac color. It looks really nice and airy and soothing and will make a small room look larger. It also looks great with sage green as an accent.
