What are some great colors to paint walls to make the appear larger?

My husband and I just bought our first house. It has an open floor plan where the kitchen and living room areas are open to one another. It's only six years old so it looks brand new. The living room and hall way are a maroon color and the kitchen has beautiful wall boarder but the kitchen is tan. I also can't figure out if I want to pain the kitchen, living room and hallway one color. I need help on colors. These walls are too dark. Any advice on painting and remodeling would be greatly appreciated. What are some great colors to paint walls to make the appear larger?
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a pale blue like ';carefree'; (# 6777) might be a great choice for the wall color.

You can take a photo of your house %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions %26amp; for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look likeWhat are some great colors to paint walls to make the appear larger?
There aren't any great colors that make rooms appear larger, unless your idea of great colors include ones that are white, off-white, and light colored, in that order. Darker colors make rooms look smaller.
google ';sherwin williams discover color'; its a fun site.
