How can I make a perfect straight line on a seam (corner) when using two paint colors?

I am painting my house with two different colors, and my husband is not making a straight line on the seam. Is there a trick or tool to fix the missed spots? Or does anybody know who I can hire to make the straight lines for us. The paint was too expensive for the outcome to fail.How can I make a perfect straight line on a seam (corner) when using two paint colors?
Paint your lighter color first. After it drys, apply masking tape. If your walls are at all textured, paint a bit of clear flat paint over the tape edge to seal it and keep your dark color from seeping underneath the tape. Once that dries, paint your dark color.

Paint tape.


paint the wall you want done in colour.


wait for it to dry.





use paint tape.. nothing else. it isn't as sticky so it is easy to remove off of painted surfaces. Then paint the next wall. The paint will get on the tape and not the newly painted wall.





It is easy to do and works beautifully. it is how i did my rooms and it turned out wonderfully.

Put some masking tape on the side of the corner you are NOT painting. Then paint the uncovered side. When the first side is done, do it again on the second side.
use either painters or masking tape on the line you want it. get some CLEAR paint, either glossy or matte (depending on the paint) and cover over the side of the tape to be painted. this will take care of the glops that end up under the tape. then paint as usual and after DRY pull tape at a 45 degree angle and you should have a clean line.
paint one side the mast it about half an inch over the other color wait until the paint dries and steam the tape off. and paint that comes off retouch with a fine brush
my wife and i had the same problem with our house. your local hardware store should sell and edging tool in the paint department. it's basically a piece of straight plastic with a handle that you can use as a straight edge and paint on. the paint washes off pretty easily so you can use the same one for different colors. good luck!





be careful if you choose painters tape. make sure it's pressed firmly against the wall you aren't painting. any space left open will let paint in, ruining your line.
a couple of thoughts on this..use masking tape to make the line or they make a device that you can paint to that is made of steel and kind of looks like a wide scraper
There are tons of methods,but tape,or an edger are adequit for this purpose.There is an edger that will save you time and money that gives you a straight line if you use it correctly.
use 3M clean release painters tape with a 2 inch (or smaller) angled sash brush, or a ';hot dog'; roller. If all else fails hire a painting contractor, they should be in the yellow pages.
I agree with using masking tape or painter's tape (preferred). However, you need to know that you need to remove the tape as soon as you are done painting, before the paint dries. If you wait too long, it will pull of the paint at the edges.
If it is an outside corner use the paint tape on the side where you don't want the color. Then use a very small high density foam roller and paint from the tape into the field ( area on which you want the paint ). If you go from the field toward the tape the paint will seep under. Don't go up and down along the tape either -- seeping will also occur if you do that. Make sure your roller isn't drippy or over loaded with paint and you should have a very neat result. Inside corners are trickier. Use tape again, but it is easiest to just use a small brush to carefully paint along next to the tape. Remove your tape immediately after you have painted to make sure any areas where you made mistakes can be wiped away or repaired as quickly as possible.
