Will these wall paint colors look good for basement family room?

I have a rectangular basement family room, 11 feet by 22 feet (ceiling is white, 8 feet high), there is a door going through a narrow wall, and two windows (5 feet long, 3 feet high, each) on the right side long wall, with a ledge under the windows. We will lay Red Oak Gunstock laminate floor, which looks very similar to hardwood (individual planks that are 2'; wide, 3 different lengths.)


On the left and front wall I will paint a darkish Balkan Sea blue.

On the right wall with the windows, and the narrow wall with the door through it, will paint it Wilton Blue.

Will have white baseboard trim and window casing trim.


I think painting the whole room Balkan Sea would make the room too dark looking.Will these wall paint colors look good for basement family room?
I have a similar size room, but larger windows, and have the timber arround the skirting boards, and a lighter colour on the ceiling and a darker colour on the walls.

i wouldnt worry too much about the room looking dark , as long as you have a light ceiling , it will look great! be confident you have chosen well!!have had a lot of decor experience.I do it part time.Will these wall paint colors look good for basement family room?
Those colors are lovely. You chose some great colors. With the white accents I think you will be just fine and even the Balkan SEa blue won't be too dark. Have Fun!!
As a color consultant I would advise you to not paint the darkest Balkan Sea Blue, the lighter shade is sufficiently dark enough. The Wilton Blue is a fabulous color and very calming, it will bring a lot of ';light'; into the room. My suggestion? Paint the window wall the lighter Balkan and the remainder of the room Wilton. The window wall sounds like it is the focal wall of the room, use the different shade to emphasis the windows and natural light that does come into the room. I would also suggest installing some more artificial lighting fixtures. Even two table lamps and two free standing lamps would be sufficient (they don't always have to be on). It lends interest to the room and gives you extra task lighting. My last suggestion is change out your light bulbs to Reveal bulbs, they give purer light and not a yellow cast.

The colors sound and look nice over all. I think the true answer will depend on your lighting, the colors are on the darker side for what appears to be the amount of natural light you will be getting. Most home owners however over come this by installing recessed lighting to make up for the lack of natural light.





In todays new home market with the cost of homes at an all time high we need to make the most of ALL space available and this includes basements as well as some attic spaces (depending on home design). The key to this is with lighting. We want the space to be a continuation of our main level living space hense the new expression Lower Level (instead of basement). Thanks Twila
I have a basement rec room and I would go lighter. I have two windows the size of yours, but it lets in very little light. I wish I had gone with cream on all the walls, white ceiling and woodwork.


If you don't like a cream, pale yellow would be great. Blue and white accent pieces look great with the pale yellow.
